new in v2.3.x:

✓AutoCheck-in to Foursquare and Facebook: automatically checks you in to venues you have specified
✓delayed Latitude sync: stores your locations even when you’re offline and pushes them to your Latitude history when you’re back online
✓background mode now available even when you’re not logged into Latitude (for autocheckins or on-device location history)
✓locations accuracy overlay
✓starting from this version, iOS3.x is no longer supported

PlaceTrack version 2.3 is coming with a couple of important new features: Auto Check-In and Delayed Sync.

Auto Check-In: Automatically checks you in to your favourite Foursquare or Facebook venues as long as you’re within 15m for at least 4 minutes.

Delayed Sync: stores your locations when you’re offline, push them to your Latitude history when you’re back online.

✓now you can use PlaceTrack to check in to Foursquare and Facebook!
✓latitude contacts‘ location are shown again (inside an embedded web view)
✓distance information on detail views and friend list
✓minor cosmetic changes
☂fixed a bug where PlaceTrack could log you off from Latitude when the app restarts in the background on passlocked devices (please re-login for this to take effect)
☂fixed a bug where PlaceTrack crashes on iOS version earlier than iOS5

PS: Latitude friends’ locations are not natively displayed because the official Latitude API does not allow third party applications to use this functionality (and undocumented stuff no longer works)

PlaceTrack 2.0 now available in the App Store

This version uses the official Latitude API, can update your location and has some interesting new features: friends location through Foursquare and Facebook checkins, Street View, OAuth (2-step verification now works). It cannot display Latitude friends locations due to Latitude API limitations though.

PlaceTrack issues

on Jan 5 2012 Google made some major changes and dropped support to some unofficial (private) API methods I use in PlaceTrack.

Yes, I had to implement friends locations retrieval through reverse engineering: Google does not allow third party applications to retrieve friends location through its documented Latitude API.

Hopefully I can find a workaround and release an update… in the meantime I temporarily removed PlaceTrack from the App Store. Thanks Google.
